Today, Harvey Weinstein's wife, Georgina Chapman, released a statement to People announcing that she is leaving him.
"My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time," she told the outlet.
The Marchesa designer married Weinstein in 2007; they have two children together.
After theNew York Times and the New Yorker reported that the Hollywood producer has been accused of sexual harassment and assault by multiple women, many Hollywood actors and actresses have spoken out, calling the alleged behaviuor "disturbing" and "inexcusable." Today, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow also shared stories of their experiences with Weinstein. The Obamas released a statement expressing their disgust about the reports. Many people have taken to Twitter to share their own personal stories of assault and harassment in the workplace.
In response to the Times report Weinstein released a statement last week and gave an interview to the New York Post where he addressed his relationship with his wife:
"She stands 100 percent behind me. Georgina and I have talked about this at length. We went out with Lisa Bloom last night when we knew the article was coming out. Georgina will be with Lisa and others kicking my ass to be a better human being and to apologize to people for my bad behavior, to say I'm sorry, and to absolutely mean it."
Today, he gave another statement in response to the New Yorker article through a spokesperson:
"Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. Mr. Weinstein obviously can't speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual. Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance."
This is the first time Georgina Chapman has publicly commented on the matter.
