Royal biographer Andrew Morton has announced he will be writing an in-depth biography of Meghan Markle ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry next spring.

Morton - who became well-know for writing the highly controversial Diana: Her True Story - confirmed the news on Twitter over the weekend (December 9).

'Excited to be writing #MeghanMarkle's story. She has bags of charisma. A royal star who will have tremendous impact on royal family and wider world,' he posted.

According to The Bookseller, Michael O'Mara Books has acquired the rights to Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, which will be published on April 19 2018, a month before the former Suits star will marry Harry at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

The writer has described the 36-year-old actress and humanitarian as 'a dramatic contrast to the blushing, coy royal brides of recent history', and promises to give royal fans 'a comprehensive, unparalleled look at her life prior to the royal engagement'.

Morton told Elle UK: 'Meghan Markle is a fascinating young woman whose career I followed long before Prince Harry came calling.

'She has genuine star quality, charisma to spare and will be an intriguing addition to the House of Windsor.'

He added to the industry publication: 'Confident, groomed and camera ready, she is a dramatic contrast to the blushing, coy royal brides of recent history.

'The warmth and affection Meghan and Harry displayed during their engagement interview is light years away from the stilted 'whatever love means' conversation with Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.

'Meghan is an exciting and genuinely charismatic addition to the royal family - she makes the House of Windsor seem relevant again. Hers is a fascinating story and I can't wait to tell it.'

Along with Diana's 1992 biography, which became an international bestseller, Morton has also written books on Monica Lewinsky, Madonna, David and Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise, and Angelina Jolie.

Prince Harry and Markle announced their engagement at the end of November, and have yet to confirm the date in May.
