In the March issue of ELLE UK Karlie Kloss talks about the pressure she feels to be more than a supermodel and her fierce ambition to make a ‘meaningful impact on the world’.
Karlie opens up about her relationship with her family and friends, dealing with conflict, her competitive nature and relentless desire to achieve in everything she does (as well as the effects of such self-inflicted pressure).
The face of generation slashie, Karlie is a model /entrepreneur /philanthropist / student/ coder and wants to encourage other young women to think above and beyond limits.
She discusses the changing mood of the fashion industry and the reality of modelling today, and admits that despite her interest in technology she is far from a social media addict and takes a weekly digital detox.
ELLE’s Deputy Editor Lotte Jeffs gets beneath the glamorous veneer and meets a complex, intelligent and highly motivated woman on the verge of world domination.
To coincide with the issue Karlie has produced and starred in an exclusive video series for ELLEUK.com where she interviews trailblazing women in the fields of science, engineering and technology for their smartest career advice. Watch the series from 9 February on ELLE UK’s You Tube channel.

Karlie on technology:
‘Every industry is being transformed by technology and you either adapt or get left behind. So I think why coding has grown to be so powerful, especially for young women, is that it gives you the understanding and the skills to be a part of the change and a part of writing the future.’
On social media:
'As transformative and wonderful as technology is at times I think being so absorbed in these online personas can make it hard to exist in the actual moment.'
