Friday

The Cabana, above, offices are above our sister restaurant Hush Mayfair, below (8 Lancashire Court, Brook St, London W1S 1EY, 020 7659 1500, hush.co.uk), a hidden country yard tucked away in the heart of Mayfair. The cobbled terrace is one of the great outdoor spots in town, so that’s where we tend to have a drink after work. We're just about to launch our Grill from Ipanema World Cup pop-up in Covent Garden's piazza, so there is a lot to talk about. .

If my week has been busy, I head home to Hampstead, which helps escape the madness of central London. For a really authentic Japanese treat, my go- to place is Jin Kichi (73 Heath Street, London, NW3 6UG, 020 7794 6158, jinkichi.com/jinkichi/), an inconspicuous little restaurant on Heath Street, where we sit around the robata grill into the early hours. It has great service, and the skewers are divine, particularly the Sunagimo skewer, a grilled chicken gizzard with a touch of salt.

Another of my local favourites is the Everyman cinema, above (5 Holly Bush Vale, London NW3 6TX, 0871 906 9060, everymancinema.com)– I love the large red sofas and having snacks served throughout the film.

Saturday

I usually pop into one of the London Cabana branches to see how everyone’s doing. As it’s the busiest time of the week, we don't stick around for long, and if near our St Giles branch, I’ll head down to the little Brasilian Canela Café, above (33 Earlham Street, London, WC2H 9LS, 020 7240 6926, canelacafe.com) My kids devour the Romeu & Julieta dish, a traditional combo of guava and soft cheese, and I overcome my saudade (longing) for Brasil by buying too much pacoquinha, an addictively sweet peanut candy.

I am a sucker for seafood, and am rarely happier than when eating in Scott’s, above (20 Mount St, London, W1K 2HE, 020 7495 7309, scotts-restaurant.com, or J Sheekey, below (28-35 St Martins Ct, London WC2N 4AL, 020 7240 2565, jsheekeyoysterbar.co.uk). They do the best seafood, from shellfish to caviar, which goes down a treat after a kir vin blanc, the original (humbler) version of the kir royale - a refreshing mix of crème de cassis and white wine.

We go to the theatre at least once a month; most recently to see the Brasilian Thiago Soares and his wife Marianela Nunez dance The Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House (Bow Street, London, WC2E 9DD, 020 7240 1200, roh.org.uk). Afterwards, we’ll head to the Groucho (45 Dean Street, London, W1D 4PZ, 020 7439 4685, thegrouchoclub.com) - . with two restaurants and a private bar, it’s a buzzy place to chill.

Sunday

In summer, I start Sundays with a swim in the Mixed Pond on Hampstead Heath (Hampstead, London, NW3 7JR). It gets crazy busy in the height of summer, but early in the morning there are just the same regulars and the ducks, which is quite a magical sight. If you don’t like the idea of swimming in a pond, the Parliament Hill Lido, above (Parliament Hill Fields, Gordon House Road, NW5 1LP, 020 7332 3773, camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/contacts/non-council-contacts/contact-parliament-hill-lido.en early morning swim (7-9am) is almost as good. During the evening, I’ll wander across the Heath to the Brew House Café at Kenwood House (Kenwood House, Hampstead Lane, London, NW3 7JR, 020 8341 5384, companyofcooks.com) , where ice cream is especially good, and relaxing in the garden is a treat before the week ahead.

Cabana’s Grill from Ipanema pop-up will be open from 12pm until 11pm from June 28th – July 13th for the World Cup, in Covent Garden Piazza - bringing a little slice of Rio to the heart of London. We’ll sell our best-selling chicken straight off the grill, like in the ubiquitous galeto joints in Rio, caipirinhas and half a dozen different batidas , the delicious alcoholic tropical fruit cocktail with cachaça and condensed milk. There will also be paddle-ball in the sand, courtesy of Frescobol Carioca and Ipanema flip flops to make everyone get into character.
