The NYFW bar

The fashion crowd braved the snow and ice to make it to the Terrace and Rose Bar at Gramercy Park Hotel. The hotel hosted nightly NYFW fetes in the two bars, including Rebecca Minkoff’s after-party. “If a blizzard lets us have an intimate party, I’m happy about it,” Minkoff told the New York Times – looking on the bright side of bad weather. Up-and-coming New York designers Cushnie et Ochs and Joseph Altuzarra also held their after-show events at the Gramercy, while smart fashion folk took advantage of the hotel’s fashion week package and based themselves in one of its colour-clash suites for the duration.

Exhibition...Shoe Obsession at FIT

We’re loving the sculptural heels at this new exhibition in the Fashion Institute of Technology. Shoe Obsession, on until April 13th 2013 at the Institute’s museum in Chelsea, examines how designer shoes became the 21st Century’s most coveted accessory. There are designs from Manolo Blahnik, Nicholas Kirkwood, Christian Louboutin, and Roger Vivier to name a few, plus highlights from the archives of collectors like Daphne Guinness.

Hot Bites

Steakhouses are back in vogue thanks to two chic new openings. Arlington Club Steakhouse on the Upper East Side opened in autumn 2012 to rave reviews. Alexa Chung and Pharrell have already been spotted in the navy leather banquettes at the Beaux-Arts style restaurant, which also cleverly caters for the UES’s non-carnivores with a sushi menu.

Bill's Food and Drink in Midtown is a revamped version of much-loved steakhouse Bill’s Gay Nineties, housed in a 19th Century townhouse. The restaurant is hosting a series of NYFW dinners, including the Calvin Klein after party.

The gossip...Marc Jacobs for Diet Coke

New York is all a-buzz over Marc Jacobs' new role as creative director for Diet Coke. Jacobs will be creating limited edition bottle and can designs inspired by the 80s, 90s and noughties, to celebrate Diet Coke’s 30th anniversary. Early promo pics for his first campaign, shot by Stéphane Sednaoui, show a topless, tattoo-splattered Jacobs opening and slurping from a can of Diet Coke. Can we expect to see giant billboards of a buff Jacobs plastered near his West Village stomping grounds? We hope so.

Hot hood... Carroll Gardens

Once a working-class Italian neighbourhood, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens is getting buzz for its hot restaurant scene. Solange Knowles is one of several famous faces to call the neighbourhood home, while sister Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z love stylish bistro Buttermilk Channel and cult pizza joint Lucali. Smith Street, known as Brooklyn’s restaurant row, is home to seasonal food spot Battersby - currently one of the hottest restaurants in America, along with speakeasy-style bars like Clover Club. Neighbourhood favourite Frankies Spuntino is also a favourite of locals Michelle Williams and Jason Siegel. Among the pizza parlours and 100-yr-old Italian butchers', you'll also find a Momofuku Milk Bar.
