With the Frieze Art Fair kicking off proceedings today, this month has seen the capital go all creative. We’ve rounded up our pick of the very best art events in London this October.

Frieze Art Fair

It’s that time of year again when the infamous Frieze Art Fair rolls into town and pitches up its tents in Regent’s Park. Each year it gets bigger and better and its 10th year will see the showcase of over 170 international galleries featuring contemporary artists from all over the world. There’ll be, as always, a unique programme of hosted talks, film screenings and a selection of established and new artists’ work in the sculpture garden. If that’s not enough, you should head for the Frieze Masters, it’s the first time the sister show has been put on and will explore the relationship between ancient and modern art.

Address: Regent’s Park, Chester Road, London, NW1 4NR. Dates: 11th – 14th October; friezelondon.com

BVI Competition

As the gloomy nights of winter start to slowly creep in, there’s nothing that’ll cheer you up more than the prospect of a free trip to the sun drenched shores of the idyllic British Virgin Islands, and luckily the brilliant Beach Tomato are offering just that. They’re putting on a gorilla exhibition of six beautiful artworks of scenes from the British Virgin Islands that will be dotted around Soho and Shoreditch. All you have to do is find three of the six artworks, take a picture and upload it to Facebook, easy. We’ll be chasing round London and emailing our photos in sharpish to be in with a chance at a bit of winter sun. Bliss.

Bedlam at the Old Vic Tunnels

With a string of successful exhibitions already under their belts, the Lazarides gallery and the Old Vic Tunnels will be collaborating for the final time for their latest venture ‘Bedlam’. Running from 9th – 21st October, they’ll be transforming five of the tunnels that lie hidden beneath Waterloo Station, with the works of 18 different artists. There’ll also be a travelling members club collaboration called Fold, which will be a space for people to meet, have a drink at the pop-up bar, work or watch one of the many performing arts events they have going on.

Address: The Old Vic Tunnels, Station Approach Road, London SE1 8SW. Dates: Now until 21st October; oldvictunnels.com

Hus Gallery

From LA to Venice, via Monaco and Miami, the Hus Gallery is no stranger to an exclusive pop-up exhibition. And this year to coincide with the opening of the Frieze Art Fair, they’ll be hosting a London venture, in the form of a three day event at One Marylebone. The exhbition is for the talented artist Mark Evans – who has spent the last 12 years perfecting his artwork of etching in leather. Once the pop-up is over, you’ll still be able to visit the Hus Gallery (by appointment only), but keep a lookout for their new Mayfair opening coming soon.

Address: One Marylebone, 1 Marylebone Road, London, NW1 4AQ. Dates: Now until the 12th October; husgalleries.com

The Affordable Art Fair

If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to some of the six digit figures at the Frieze Art Fair, then you should head for the altogether more accessible Affordable Art Fair. There’ll be over 100 galleries filled with paintings, prints, sculptures and photography, with a price to fit all budgets. This year there’s also a recent graduates’ exhibition meaning you can snap up a masterpiece from some of the great emerging talent. If you live north of the river and don’t fancy making the journey south, hold tight for the Hampstead Art Fair, which opens its doors on the 1st November.

Address: Battersea Evolution, Battersea Park, London SW11 4NJ; Dates: 25th – 28th October; affordableartfair.com
