Lords of the Manor, Cotswolds
Lords of the Manor is, as the name suggests, a really rather noble spot. A honey-coloured manor house in the idyllic village of Upper Slaughter, its one of the grandest and best country house hotels in England. And the foods just as impressive. Executive chef Matt Weedon has been at the hotel since 2008 (picking up his first Michelin star shortly afterwards), and his menus are heavily drawn from local produce - whether its Cotswold Longhorn beef or local estate-reared venison and partridge.

Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, London
Grand but not stuffy, The Berkeley is a permanent fashion week favourite amongst editors, designers and models, who flock to the place for its spa (and rooftop pool) and intimate, sanctuary-like bar. But its Marcus Wareings restaurant thats arguably the real highlight. Since stepping out of Gordon Ramsays shadow, Marcus Wareing has been a very busy boy, having not only pushed Petrus out of the picture at The Berkeley, but also managing to find the time to open The Gilbert Scott at the St Pancras Hotel in 2011. Standout dishes include the likes of Scottish lobster, langoustines and suckling pig. But really, whatever you go for, its likely to be very, very good indeed.

Driftwood, Cornwall
Set on an isolated stretch of coastline on the Rosevine peninsula, Driftwood is a wonderfully romantic hotel by the sea in Cornwall. Gorgeous setting aside, though, its Chris Edens restaurant thats really been attracting attention lately, having been awarded its first Michelin star this year. Given the location, its hardly surprising that its fairly fish-focused, with locally caught mackerel, John Dory, brill and cod all making regular appearances on the menu. The only slight downside? It closes for a couple of months over the winter, so youll have to wait until it opens again in early February before you can get yourself in there.

Helene Darroze at The Connaught, London
The second of our pick of London hotels with Michelin star restaurants is Helene Darrozes first UK venture. The Parisian chef may have divided critics since she took over from Angela Hartnett at The Connaught (with one or two taking issue with what they saw as a slight over-fussiness in the food and service), but for us its hard to argue with the overall outcome. This is The Connaught, so expect lots of swirls and flourishes both visually and in terms of the complicated flavours created along with plenty of grandeur and formality in the surroundings. Must-tries? Any of the fabulous creations from the dessert list.

Holbeck Ghyll, Lake District
Surrounded by some of the countrys most gorgeous landscapes, Holbeck Ghyll is one of the best places to stay in the Lake District. And with fabulous food to go with those views out over Lake Windermere and across the fells, if ever there was a destination restaurant, this is it. Yes, it has a slightly old-fashioned feel, but its in the best possible country house way, while the food itself is refreshingly unfussy and, for a Michelin-starred restaurant, served in healthy-sized portions too. It seems like a minor point when the quality of everything that comes out of the kitchen is as high as it is, but after a winter's day of being buffeted by wind and rain it makes all the difference.
