The Best Hotel for a Paris Shopping Break: Hotel Lancaster

Where do you start with planning a Paris shopping break? Do you go Louvre/Tuileries/Rue Saint Honoré or Boulevard Haussmann? Or the other way entirely, with independent boutiques in the Marais and fleamarkets of Saint-Ouen? If it’s more the former you’re after, Hotel Lancaster is the place. The Mandeville is a hotel that often manages to slip under the radar. Riad Meriem is right in the heaving heart of the Marrakech medina, and just a few short steps from one of the main entrances to the souks. Or you can always just dive straight into the melee and haggle away like crazy for a natty pair of babouches…

The Best Hotel for a New York Shopping Break: Hotel Gansevoort

The Hotel Gansevoort is a favourite for its seriously shopping-friendly location in the West Village end of the Meatpacking District. Starting the day with brunch at Pastis (opposite the hotel), you can work your way through the likes of Jeffreys, Theory, Louboutin and Helmut Lang, before finishing up, cocktail in hand, by one of the city’s best rooftop pools, gazing out at the New York skyline.
