Thai Spa, Lough Erne Resort, Northern Ireland

Spa resorts – acres of space devoted to pampering and relaxation – are still relatively new to Northern Ireland, which makes Lough Erne even more attractive. If a waterside location in Co Fermanagh isn’t enough, try the stunning Thai Spa, which has eight treatment rooms, a thermal suite, light therapy sauna and indoor infinity pool. A Soul Revival ritual will ease you out of winter hibernation mode, as will the opulence of the accommodation in a choice of hotel rooms or private lodges.

SenSpa, Careys Manor Hotel, Hampshire

Perhaps it’s the authentic Thai masseuses or the spa cafe’s fusion food, but there is something very zen about this New Forest spa. It has a choice of relaxation areas, hydrotherapy pool and crystal steam room, and uses its own SenSpa chemical-free products. It’s like being transported overseas – without the airfare. In fact, guests arriving by train instead of car (Brockenhurst is on the train line out of London Waterloo) receive a discount.
