Theoxenia, Mykonos

Theoxenia has got pedigree. Jackie O used to stay at the hotel in the 60s, and more recently the likes of Julien Macdonald and Jean Paul Gaultier have checked in. The rooms are a vibrant, colourful, Austin Powers-ish nod to the original 60s design, while the setting – the hotel is framed against a photo-opp backdrop of windmills and within easy bag-carrying distance of the bars and shops of Kato Mili – is great, too.

Melenos Lindos, Rhodes

A handful of suites decorated in tasteful traditional garb? Check. Lovely gardens with views of the blue, blue Aegean? Check. A nearby sun-soaked acropolis? Check. The chance to eat authentic Greek cooking... Under the stars? Check and check. Melenos Lindos reads like a checklist of all the things that make for a top Greek Islands retreat. And the best bit? It’s adults-only.

The Grace, Santorini

The Grace Santorini is a vision of blinding Cycladic white and bright blue skies. Inside there’s plenty of stripped back minimal design on show, a restaurant run by a former protégé of Michel Roux JR and luxe-y suites that come with their own private Jacuzzis. But all that pales into comparison when stacked up against the jaw-dropping views it offers of the caldera at sunset...

Ostraco Suites, Mykonos

Back on Mykonos, Ostraco Suites gets the nod because of its location. It’s within a heel’s clack of the celeb-stuffed nightlife of Mykonos town (or a short taxi ride for the less adventurous/steady on their feet), but still has a strong sense of being away from it all. Expect the usual white-on-white Greek Islands minimalism, but with more than a touch of barefoot luxury with it.

Petasos Beach Resort, Mykonos

While it’s got a slightly more resorty feel to it than our other Greek Island retreats, you won’t find any group sing-alongs or pestering holiday reps at Petasos Beach Resort. Just a fabulous spa, a two-tiered infinity pool, a smattering of luxurious suites jutting out to sea on their own private peninsula, and a location within walking distance of the beaches of Psarou and Platis Yialos.
