When an Indian summer hits Berlin it won’t do to spend your time holed up in the city’s clubs – what you really need is a fantastic alfresco setting. Not a problem. We’ve rounded up the best outdoor drinking spots in town.

1. Chalet Garden

Fancy drinking in the garden of a 19th century mansion? The people behind Chalet have transformed one of Kreuzberg’s historic houses into a techno club, while its garden provides some laid-back respite from the dance floor. With its leafy canopy, water lily pools and hanging lanterns, you won’t find a more picturesque setting. By day take your time over a few ice-cold Berliner Kindl beers, or head back after a night in the nearby and notorious Berghain club for that ‘final’ nightcap round the campfire.

2. Weekend Club Rooftop

Arriving at Weekend isn’t quite what you’d expect: an old Soviet office block in the middle of the business district. But take the lift to the 15th floor and you’ll be greeted by one of the most impressive rooftop bars in Berlin. This newly opened space ticks all the boxes for stylish rooftop drinking (panoramic views, lavish cocktails, plush sofas to sit), plus the added bonus of lightening-quick service and rugs handed out when day turns into night (or night into day). Drinks-wise, make yours a Moscow Mule or Sake’politan, the perfect accompaniments to a sunset over the TV Tower.

3. The Badeschiff

To survive a week of revelries you’d be wise to combine daytime drinking with a refreshing swim. Fashioned from a recycled cargo container, The Badeschiff is a public pool floating atop the river Spree, complete with a 'beach' area, outdoor bar and food stalls selling sausage-filled Brötchen and roast chicken wraps (delicious even in 30-degree heat). On summer days you’ll find cool media types lazing on deck chairs nursing Long Island Iced Teas, documenting their every movement via Instagram. Get there early to nab a good spot and let a day of people watching commence.

4. Soho House Rooftop

After the VIP treatment? Then it’s got to be Soho House, Berlin-style. The London members club opted for a towering Bauhaus building for its German outpost. Chic striped loungers, floral armchairs and kitschy lampshades surround the rooftop bar, while the green-tiled pool makes an inviting centrepiece. Throw in a restaurant serving fresh salads and perfectly-cooked steaks and you’ll never want to leave. The facilities are all off-limits unless you’re a member or a guest at the hotel, but well worth it for a night’s stay alone.

5. Liquidrom

If Berlin’s party scene has left you feeling jaded, Liquidrom is your ticket to recovery. This spa in Mitte is home to a blissfully quiet courtyard complete with a well-stocked bar. Lie back with a glass of Prosecco or Bloody Mary in the toweling robes provided - or a smoothie if you’re really detoxing – and let the bubbling sounds of the pool wash away last night’s excesses. Entry for the day costs €29.50, which also gives you access to a steam room, sauna and relaxing flotation tank. Massages are an extra €60 - recommended for a fully restorative experience.
