What's My Weekend: Cathleen McGarry

The woman behind new bar Basement Sate shares her weekend

Compiled by Kasia Hastings

At just 23 years old, Cathleen McGarry is the owner of new Soho cocktail and dessert bar, Basement Sate, and co-owner of hot Parisian bar, Le Sherry Butt.

As a bar owner, my working week properly gets into gear now. I walk into Soho through the park from my home in South Kensington, grabbing some lunch from Beatroot (92 Berwick Street, Soho, London W1F 0QD 0207 437 8591, beatroot.org.uk) which is a fantastic vegetarian cafe just around the corner from Basement Sate (8 Broadwick Street, W1F 8HN, 020 7287 3412, basementsate.com).

I'll spend the afternoon setting up, going through bookings etc, then stay local with some chilled-out drinks in the Blind Pig (58 Poland street, London, W1F 7NS 0207 993 3251 socialeatinghouse.com) and dinner downstairs at the Social Eating House (58 Poland street, London, W1F 7NS 0207 993 3251, socialeatinghouse.com), where the food looks as beautiful as it tastes.

I like to go for a run in the park before catching up with girlfriends at the Good Life Eatery (59 Sloan Square, London, SW3 3DH, 0207 052 9388, goodlifeeatery.com) in Chelsea. I like to keep it healthy in the day, and this place has the most delicious salads and juices, as well as a great atmosphere to while away the afternoon.

Later I'll enjoy dinner near home in my favourite sushi place, Yashin (117-119 Old Brompton Road,  London SW7 3RN  020 7373 3990, yashinsushi.com) a must for anyone who likes sushi, before heading to Basement Sate when the DJ gets going and the fun really starts.

When the bar closes I sometimes head over to Experimental Cocktail Club (13a Gerrard St, Chinatown, London W1D 5PS,  020 7434 3559, chinatownecc.com) around the corner in China Town. The music is good, the cocktails are great and it has a laid-back vibe so I'll often stay until the early hours.

Power Yoga (The Power Yoga Company, 11-12 Lettice Street, SW6 4EH, 0207 736 4429, thepoweryogaco.com) is my way of detoxing from my Saturday night, and later on I'll head to Basement Sate and do a few tastings, playing around with whatever new products might have been dropped in.

Then I'll venture out East to Brawn (49 Columbia Rd, London, E2 7RG,  0207 729 5692, brawn.co) and enjoy some really wonderful organic wines from some people who really know their stuff.

Basement Sate launched in Soho in September 2014, serving tasty desserts (from £8 - £13) from its open kitchen, mixing expertly prepared cocktails (classics with a twist and inventive house creations) with DJs creating a party vibe.
