On a sandy spit, at the northern end of Formentera, this beautiful, untouched beach is typical of the laid-back, back-to-nature vibe of the whole island.

It gets busy peak season with Ibiza escapees having some downtime from the clubs, and  fancy- yacht owners pulling up for lunch at the fishing-shack-turned-celebrity–beach- restaurant, Juan y Andrea (00 34 971 187 130). The northern (nudist) end is the quietest.

Where to stay:

Es Ram

With its 16 rooms and slate-grey pool, Es Ram is Formentera’s smartest retreat, but the luxuries here are really the endless sea views, the privacy and the sound of the wind and waves.

Kate Moss, always one step ahead, discovered Formentera 15 years ago. Es Ram is her bolthole of choice.
