The inventors of ‘urban glamping’, Hüttenpalast,  aka Hut Palace,  treads a stylish line between camping and boutique hotel. Housed in  a former Berlin factory, within walking distance of the Brandenburg Gate, it features fake grass, fairylit silver birch trees and an inspired collection of refurbished vintage caravans, finished with great attention to detail.

Kokopelli Camping, Italy

On the edge of Majella National Park, Kokopelli Camping is a refreshingly understated, rural site. The pitches are basic, but have furnished bell tents and a vintage VW for hire. Facilities, from solar-heated showers to Wi-Fi, are excellent and unobtrusive. For sporty types, the site’s owners lead tours of the surrounding mountains.
