The Eurostar news we've been waiting for ever since what feels like the start of time is finally here - we will soon be able to travel direct to Amsterdam by train.

If you love the city as much as we do, imagine how amazing it will be when you can reach the Netherlands' capital without faffing around with planes and airports.

And the good news doesn't stop there. According to the Evening Standard, there will be two trains a day running direct from London to Amsterdam and the journey will take just under four hours.

Considering that the flight time between London and Amsterdam is around one hour 15 minutes but you have to go through the faff of getting to the airport two hours early and picking your bags up at the other end, the train seems like a much more straightforward option.

And, it's worth keeping in mind that you can currently buy Eurostar tickets to Brussels for as little as £25 one way, so we're guessing/hoping the fares to Amsterdam are going to be pretty good value, too.

A company source told the Evening Standard: "We will compete with the low-cost airlines on price, speed, ease, convenience and quality of service."

Yep, this could all be fairly awkward for airlines!
