This week we’re all about comebacks, with welcome returns from Field Day, Franks Café, Secret Cinema – and the ancient Greek dramatist Aeschylus. Obviously

MUSIC: Field Day festival
So you want bands and beats and beards and beams of sun? Then step right this way, alliteration fan. For this weekend, the cool kids of east london decamp to Victoria park for two days of all the above. Band-wise, we have the likes of Caribou, Django Django and Patti Smith in prospect, Andrew Weatherall and Daniel Avery have beats to spare, and the suitably hip crowd are sure to take care of the beards. And as for the sun? The forecast is looking gooood…
After something a little more cerebral? We can offer you a bona fide Greek tragedy, no less! Updated, re-imagined and more powerful than ever, this bloody saga of warring families has enough murder, revenge and betrayal to make EastEnders look like Sesame Street. What’s more, it stars Downton’s Jessica Brown Findlay and comes from the director of last year’s blistering hit version of 1984. See? Cerebral = cool.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that all things are made better by cocktails. Not least your dinner, as the clever chefs at Ravenous prove. Taking your favourite tipples and infusing them into delicious dishes (margarita-cured salmon gravadlax, anyone?) their culinary pop-ups are a must-try for anyone who loves fine food and classic cocktails. And let’s face it, WHO doesn’t like fine food and classic cocktails?
Now listen up, y’all. The supper-club trend is all well and good, but wouldn’t it be made better with some good ol’ deep, down and dirty Louisiana soul? (Hint: the answer is HELL YEAH.) Well, here it is, in the form Of Slap Ya Papa, a foodie pop-up inspired by all things New Orleans. Taking over Hackney Empire, you can expect three courses of lip-smackin’ soul food and live foot-stompin’ blues music. In short: one helluva party.

THEATRE: Circumference presents Shelter Me
We’ve put this under ‘theatre’, but that’s only because they’ve not yet invented a word to cover this collective of circus/audio/visual/performance artists. (Circauvisperf? Perfauviscirc? You see our problem.) For their newest project, Circumference are taking over seven floors of the old Guardian Building to lead you on an ‘interactive acrobatic journey’, where the audience navigates their way through the play by text message, exploring the relationship between human intimacy and digital technology. But with acrobats, which is surely the best way to explore anything.
FILM: Secret Cinema presents Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
A long time ago, in a secret location far far away, some genius realised that there was only one film with the force strong enough to become the next project for Secret Cinema, the Jedi knights of the immersive film screening galaxy. Star Wars! And now here it is, promising spectacular sets and explosive effects, plus top-secret missions for the padawans (that’ll be us, then) to complete before the film itself. The details remain under wraps, but with Yoda-like foresight, we can 100% promise you this: involve light sabres, it will.
We have this thought every time we’re in a multi-storey car park, and we’re sure you do too: this would be a bloody good place for a bar. And FINALLY someone did it, atop the Peckham Multi-Storey car park, to be precise. The al-fresco drinking spot became THE hipster hangout of last summer and 2015 is set to be no different. Get yourself there for unbeatable city views, cool tunes and more skinny jeans than Russell Brand’s closet.
Until 27 September
