EVENT: Notting Hill Carnival
We’ll begin with the biggie: an event that really needs no introduction. What? You’d like one anyway? OK, how about: sound systems, dance troupes, curried goat and rice ‘n peas, trumpeters, masquerade, street food, steel drums, feathers, DJs, calypso, Red Stripe, glitter, samba dancing with strangers and one great big almighty explosion of a street parade? But we really could have done it in one word: CARNIVAL.

MUSIC: Norman Jay presents Good Times Goes East
While we’re on the theme – it’s Mr Carnival himself, Norman Jay. But wait: he’s going east?! That’s right, the legendary DJ, MBE and west-London royalty is playing his first-ever set on the opposite side of town, in the beautiful St John-at-Hackney Church, no less. Expect all kinds of up-tempo beats, sun-soaked soul and downright delirious dub as he shows Hackney how to warm up for Carnival in style. We’re smiling already.
