Never mind the January diet, we've got a better idea. CAKE. Super-stylish, sumptuous cheesecake, in fact, flavoured with rhubarb and spicy ginger. Along with sandwiches with a modern-Asian twist (ham and miso mustard, or smoked salmon and yuzu). And spicy salted caramel macarons. And yuzu and white chocolate mousse... They're all part of the new afternoon tea at the Strand's Tom Dixon-designed restaurant Bronte, and all come gorgeously served in a glass and gold trinket box. Which you just don't get with liquidised kale from your Nutribullet.

Never mind dry January, we've got a better idea. GIN. Lots of lovingly hand-blended, artisan gin. Local gins, exotic gins, flavoured gins, gin cocktails in balloon goblets… In fact, FOUR STOREYS of gin. And you will find it all here, at stylish new venue The Distillery. Effectively a two-fingers-up at New Year sobriety in building form, it features three bars, a micro hotel and a 400-litre basement distillery tank, not to mention a G&T palace and a gin museum. That's right: a gin museum. So while dry Jan can go to hell, we ARE at least sticking to our resolution to be more cultural.
