What could be sweeter than helping out a good cause? Well, helping out a good cause via the medium of CAKE. And that, friends, is just what you can do on Columbia Road this Saturday, when the city's best bakeries gather to sell their sweet, sweet wares in support of the #CookForSyria campaign. The concept is simple: you eat your way around the Syrian-inspired creations of 15 traders including Bread Ahead, Lily Vanilli Bakery ( pictured), Pavilion Bakery, Violet Cakes, and The Good Egg (just check out this pic of their PBJ Babka to start some serious sugar cravings), and all proceeds will be donated to Unicef's NEXTGen London, who raise funds for Syria and the region. Which means the more cake you eat, the more you give. Just saying.

We wouldn't usually send you to school as one of our top weekend recommendations. But this isn't just any school, no no. This is the Ginstitute. Where you learn about – you guessed it – gin. (With plenty of practical, hands-on experience of course.) Set in the basement of The Distillery on Portobello Road, in a room decked out to look like a gin palace, you'll learn about the history of gin (did you know that the average Brit used to get through 84 bottles a year?) while drinking a whole load of the stuff (actually, that statistic might prove to still be accurate…). And then, best of all, you get to create your own, unique bottle – after much taste-testing, obviously. Your homework assignment? Well, to drink it, duh.
£110 including four cocktails and two 70cl bottles of gin to take away
