Fancy some futuristic funk and down-and-dirty dancehall? Of course you do. And that's just what you'll find this Friday and Saturday at Theatre Royal Stratford East, which is home to this year's ace Borderless series of world-music gigs. First up on Friday is Jamiroquai percussionist and bandleader Sola Akingbola, who – along with his live collective Critical Mass – is promising us a collision of jazzy synths, gnarled guitars and even a Cuban drummer (sure!). Then Saturday sees dancehall king and Massive Attack collaborator Horace Andy take the stage for some spell-binding roots-reggae beats. Yes and YES.

It seems there's a whole '70s New York thing going on this weekend. Because here's another opportunity to make like Donna Summer (or Andy Warhol, or Bianca Jagger, orrr…), this time with an arty party at the RA. Opening late and celebrating all things avant-garde NYC, this pop-up promises artist-studio parties, film screenings, workshops, disco DJs, art-rock gigs, Happenings, secret bars, a John Cage-inspired jam session, performance art, street food – and a helluva lot of flared trews. We. LOVE.
