Naomi married Allan on 28 September 2013 at Hackney Town Hall, followed by a reception at The Londesborough pub in Stoke Newington. The theme was ‘equal opportunities’, so there were no strict wedding traditions, or anything that put the guests in a hierarchy. The pair opted for a civil ceremony with a reading from Douglas Coupland’s novel Generation X, and an acoustic version of David Bowie’s Kooks from Naomi’s sister and guitarist boyfriend.
My wedding dress was actually a two-piece skirt and top by Christopher Kane (SS13) in acid yellow with white lace applique, crystals and cellotape all over it.
The shoes were turquoise suede concealed platform pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood – a steal in a sample sale.

The décor was turquoise, yellow and hot pink – to match the blue and yellow of the bridal party.
Very few balloons survived the journey from the Town Hall to reception on the double decker bus – but we did hang up a lot of tissue pom poms in the pub.

We both managed to have a brilliant dance as the night wore on and the pub turned into a banging rave (Allan works in dance music, and lots of his friends DJed back to back).
I felt very bridal, yet still fulfilled my dream of getting married in a bright colour. Hilariously, every single button fell off the skirt during the day; the last three on the dancefloor at midnight when a friend’s boyfriend picked me up and spun me round.

We had a lot of speeches – 6 in all, including speeches from me, my dad and sister, the groom, the best man and groom’s brother - so everyone was equal.
It was the happiest, most fun, enjoyable day we could have wished for.
