ELLE's Chief Sub-Editor Fern Ross married her boyfriend of seven years, Mark Crabbie, on 25 October 2014 at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh. They got engaged in New York in March last year, and had a short, six-month engagement. Both haters of being centre of attention, they chose to have a small, intimate ceremony (just 23 guests), followed by dinner and an impromptu dance marathon. The result? A day that suited them perfectly and was bucketloads of fun. Prepare to be inspired.

We got married in the late afternoon at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh - a boutique venue perfect for small, intimate weddings.
My dress was a simple ivory silk column from Charlie Brear. I loved wearing it: it was so comfortable, effortless and fluid. I'm a bit of tomboy and happiest in lycra, so it was perfect.
Instead of a traditional wedding cover-up, I took the plunge and opted for this cropped leather jacket, also by Charlie Brear. Sadly, I lost it at our wedding party!
My shoes were these lovely nude slingbacks by Nicholas Kirkwood. The low-cut front was ultra-flattering, and the low heel meant I could dance all night long (a must, I love dancing).
My 'engagement' ring was actually a ring my mother gave me. She'd been given it for her 21st. The ring Mark proposed with is made out of a first edition of a book he gave me, and is so delicate I can't wear it every day. So my mum gave me this – and now I have two very special rings!
My flowers were by Jack Fleuriste. I fell in love with her modern, quirky and 'free' style immediately. We worked together on ideas and she came up with this fern-filled, seasonal bouquet. My favourite part is the ornamental cabbage.
I did my own make-up on the day, as it was easier than trying to do loads of make-up trials in Edinburgh (we live in London). I had a session at Bobbi Brown, then practised loads. Primer and spending plenty of time on my base was key, but eyeliner proved a challenge with wobbly hands!
Anne-Marie McElroy did my hair. I had a trial with her and liked her immediately. Picking a stylist you feel at ease with is key.
