That's right, last night officially marked the first in our series of ELLE Book Club events - all in celebration of the written word.

After much anticipation (and eager thumbing through of our June ELLE Book Club pick, ) attendees settled down with a glass of Baileys in hand to chat to the novel's author, Emma Jane Unsworth.

We got the gritty lowdown on the inspiration behind our favourite - and more debauched - parts of Animals; Unsworth revealed her original title for the novel (The Rogues); a discussion was also sparked up about gendered negativity surrounding drinking culture, as well as societal pressures on women to 'behave'.

Not to mention this all took place in an atmospheric courtyard venue, decked out with a delicious spread (all courtesy of The Hoxton Hotel).

If you didn't make it this time, don't forget our next event takes place Monday 7 July with Elizabeth Is Missing's Emma Healey.
