My exclusive first look at Valentino: Master of Couture
by ELLE winner, Emma Griffiths
'When I found out I had won a special press pass to the Valentino exhibition with ELLE, I could not have been any more excited!
I instantly began dreaming of gorgeous, one-off red carpet gowns and the reality did not disappoint.
The exhibition turns the catwalk on its head - you are the model watched by exquisitely dressed mannequins either side of the runway in dresses from the Valentino archive.
As you wander through the exhibition you get to see the designer's beautiful sketches and letters of praise from fashion editors over the years.
The exhibition was truly breathtaking. Having swooned more than I thought was possible, we ended the tour with a delicious glass of prosecco at Tom's Kitchen at Somerset House, a perfectly glamorous end to the most glamorous afternoon.
Thank you ELLE for such a lovely experience!'

FASHION RECORDS
Today, hundreds of thousands of people across the globe will attempt to break all manner of obscure records. Why? Because it's Guinness World Records Day of course! To celebrate here is a reminder of some of the most extreme, show stopping fashion moments in recent history.
Tallest heels
Alexander McQueen’s thigh high platform boots from Autumn/Winter 2009 were a staggering 12 inches high. The boots even beat Vivienne Westwood’s 10-inch platforms that supermodel Naomi Campbell famously fell in while modelling on the catwalk in 1993.
Most edible fashion
Lady Gaga is no stranger to beating records but she really outdid herself with a dress that will go down in the history books for being made entirely of raw meat.
Biggest fashion-show audience
A proper Guinness World Record was claimed by the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which was held at Cannes on 18 May 2000 and watched by more than two million people around the world who logged onto VictoriasSecret.com. Featuring models Tyra Banks, Karen Mulder and Stephanie Seymour, it was hosted by Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John and raised over £1 million for the America Foundation for AIDS Research.
Tightest trousers
So tight she apparently had to be sewn into them, the black leggings Olivia Newton-John wore in the final scene of Grease have become iconic.
Thriftiest fashion moment
Did you know you could make a dress from a tea towel? Neither did anyone else and (thankfully) the trend didn’t catch on. Top marks for thriftiness though goes to the gingeriest of spices, Geri Halliwell when she donned the now notorious Union Jack dress on stage at the Brit Awards in 1997.
Biggest couture collection
Russian artist, set and costume designer Alexandre Vassiliev has written 27 books, hosts a daily TV talk show watched by some 40 million viewers and owns one of the world's largest private couture collections. The collection of historical fashion consists of about 10,000 pieces — dresses and accessories, from 18th century to today and focuses on Russian fashion as well as French Haute Couture.
