Literary lovers, prepare yourselves,. Over 400 books will be published this week as preparation for Christmas buying begins.

This week we had Super Thursday, the day when the highest number of books are released - but prepare yourselves as the whole of October unleashes a tidal wave of books to tempt you for upcoming presents.

Super Thursday also marks the launch of this year’s Books Are My Bag campaign, the now annual celebration of bookshops in the UK. Look out for author events and deals in your local bookshops and the specially designed tote bags by Grayson Perry and Lauren Child of Charlie and Lola fame.

And if you need some tips of which of the 400 or so titles to look out for, here are our favourite books by women being published this week:

M Train by Patti Smith (Bloomsbury)

Smith’s Just Kids has become an iconic music memoir but her new offering is much more meditative. Smith has described it as 'a roadmap to my life' and it consists of her stories, thoughts, inspirations and photos as she considers life, art and travel.

Spectacles by Sue Perkins (Penguin)

If you’re mourning the end of this year’s Bake-Off (and who isn’t) then you can console yourself with Perkins’ memoir. There are plenty of anecdotes from the tent but it’s also full of charming and moving tales from Perkins childhood and her recently revealed infertility.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (Pan Macmillan)

For those of you who loved Fangirl, Rowell’s 2014 ode to loving stuff really hard, here is a treat for you. Inspired by the fan-fiction in Fangirl, Carry On is the story of Simon Snow and Baz at the curiously Howarts-esque Watford School of Magicks.

Spill Simmer Falter Wither by Sara Baume (Windmill)

This debut is on the Guardian First Book Prize shortlist. Narrated by an old man to his one-eyed dog, it's a moving read from a new talent worth watching.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition by JK Rowling and Jim Kay (Bloomsbury)

With gorgeous new illustrations, we'll take any opportunity to celebrate JK Rowling's masterpiece again and again.
