We're heading into winter, which means if you're a keen runner (or training for next year's Virgin London Marathon) then a lot of the pounding of pavements you'll do will enevitably be in the dark. Reflective detailing - stitching and piping - has been used for years to safeguard runners. But now Puma is adding LED light to some of its key running pieces this autumn.

At the launch of Puma's LED #ForeverFaster range I was given the chance to put the new kit through its paces.

The Puma Pure NightCat Powered Jacket, £90, is lightweight, warm, comfortable to wear and - as you can see - has a strip of blue fibre optic cable embedded in the upper arms. The Fass 600 v2 NightCat Powered shoe, £90, is really comfortable and has a HTD (Heel Toe Difference) of 8mm; there is also a wider space at the forefoot of the shoe - great if you're running long distances and want to prevent any toenail issues. The removable LED lights sit on the tongue, just under the laces.

The LED units weigh just 4.7g each, so you don't feel much added weight or bulk and they are charged via a USB cable provided; all the LED lights can be put into constant or flashing mode at the click of a button.

I'm impressed, the only downside, I wish I'd had this kit when I was training for the marathon last year.

PUMA’s Nightcat Powered Range is reflective with a super light LED unit to increase visibility. The range is available from ProDirectRunning.com from £90.
