Trend Alert! Asymmetric Hair

By Amy Lawrenson | Posted: Fri 12 Sep 2008

Move over Amy Winehouse and your beehive, there’s a new (much cooler) hairstyle in town. New York Fashion Week has produced so many new beauty trends for Spring/Summer 09 we can hardly wait for next season, but ELLE's pick of the most exciting is 'The Asymmetric'.

Inspired by one of our favourite fashion mavens, model and DJ Alice Dellal (who has probably herself based this look on 80s pop bands like Human League, Culture Club and ABC) the slightly anarchic and very British asymmetric, down-do has gone stateside and made more than a handful of appearances on the NY catwalks this week. At Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam and Rag & Bone the models channelled Alice’s signature side parting, slicking back hair on one side and pinning it, to emulate her edgier shaved head, and leaving long flowing locks on the other. This is a great way to get the look if you’re not brave enough to shave one side like Alice, plus you can work this style whether you have a gamine crop or long hair. So get practising 'The Asymmetric' because we predict it's going to be big news come spring.
