YSL and Lancome launch must-have black lip glosses

By Amy Lawrenson | Posted: Mon 08 Sep 2008

Black glossy lips were a massive trend on the A/W08 catwalks, with designers like YSL and Giles sending models down the runway wearing this goth inspired look. One of the season's more tricky make-up trends, treat black lips as you would a deep red, rouge noir look, keeping them sexy not scary with a glossy finish and you'll have this trend nailed.

Lancome are one of the first big beauty brands to come up with a great product that will help you get this look spot on for autumn. Masterminded by their new Artistic Director Aaron de Mey, they've created a limited edition duo for lips called ' The Piha Red', £45 . It includes a lipstick in their signature red shade 'Le Rouge' (which Lancome claim is 'neither too blue nor too orange' so it should suit most complexions), along with ' The Piha Black' Gloss, (named after the black volcanic sands of New Zealand’s Piha Beach) and the idea is to wear the black gloss over the red base (obviously) to create the perfect polished pout.

But you had better act fast if you want to get your hands on this must-have product - it is available exclusively at Selfridges, London, from the 6-15 November so get on the waiting list today.

If you want to recreate the catwalk look, YSL are launching the black gloss , £17.50, that they sent their models down the runway wearing at the A/W 08 show. Yannick Vaudry, YSL's International Make-Up Artist suggests layering the gloss 'over a wine red, blueberry or brown shade of lipstick' to create different looks with the striking gloss.YSL's Gloss Pur in black is available at selected stores at the end of this month and nationwide from February 2009.
