Jo Malone to star in Dragons Den style show

By Amy Lawrenson | Posted: Wed 28 Oct 2009

Fragrance guru and businesswoman, Jo Malone is set to star in a four-part BBC One series next spring, in which she will become a mentor to budding entrepreneurs.

Ever thought up a genius product idea that would cause queues a mile long? Now is your chance. Jo Malone is looking for people with an original product with the potential to shake up the market. Should you succeed in impressing her, you'll benefit from Jo's lengthy experience in industry. She'll guide you through the world of branding, public relations and business, before preparing you for a pitch to a major retailer.

'In a previous recession I was a small business trying to become more successful. I learnt so much from that time.' explains Jo, 'through this series, I will support and encourage a range of entrepreneurs to try and realise their dreams and fly the flag for British retail.'

Jo began her career as a beauty therapist and in the early Nineties. She created her first product - a scented bath oil - that she hand-mixed at home and gave to her facial clients as a thank you. The gift was an instant success and by 1994 she opened her first store. The company quickly grew into an international brand and in 1999, her business was acquired by Estee Lauder Companies. Jo remained Founder and Creative Director until her departure in 2006.

If you're a budding entrepreneur with a winning product idea, apply for the show at www.bbc.co.uk/beonashow and click on New Brands.
