Top designers decide it's time to give back

By Laurelle Gilbert | Posted: Fri 25 Jul 2008

This week, after announcing a net profit rise of over 66% since last year Giorgio Armani (pictured) has decided it's time to give something back.

The company will be teaming up with leading fashion e-tail site yoox.com to provide scholarships for students wanting to break in to the world of online fashion.

The designer will be offering one annual scholarship per year for the new one-year master’s degree in e-fashion at the Politecnico di Milano’s business school. That's a tuition bill of 15,000 euros taken care of for one lucky student.

Yoox will be offering three more scholarships for the master's course and Diesel, Marni and Valentino will all be offering internships.

Fashion students are also set to get more expert tuition from Jimmy Choo. The shoe maker who sold his share of the Jimmy Choo label to Tamara Mellon in 2001 and then set up his own couture footwear label making bespoke shoes for private clients has decided not to look for any new clients and focus his attention on education projects at London College of Fashion where he is a professor, advising on shoe and accessories courses.

He will however continue to make shoes for existing clients who already wear his one-off designs.
