Following a London fashion week that saw Matthew Williamson, Burberry and Pringle return to the capital after showing elsewhere, Giles Deacon has announced that he will continue to show his ready-to-wear collection in Paris having moved his catwalk show there from London in October. Deacon was a firm supporter of London fashion week since launching his label here in 2004. He was committed to showing on home soil at a time when other big names like Williamson, Jonathan Saunders and Stella McCartney went abroad. His decision to leave for Paris, however, came as the tables were turning and designers were queuing up to show in London to mark its 25th anniversary. His departure did nothing to dent October’s event but in a blow to London Fashion Week’s revival, Deacon has revealed that his spring summer 2010 collection’s sales rose 42% following his Paris launch – laying bare the business potential of showing in France.
