Is Gucci launching couture?

The last few years have seen much discussion about the state of the couture industry, and while some labels have fallen by the wayside, new names join the line up each season.
Now it seems that the exclusive fashion world is set to get another boost - rumours are circulating that Gucci is set to launch its first couture collection.
According to WWD, creative director Frida Giannini is working on the debut pieces as we speak - but the label won't be adding itself to the Paris couture week schedule.
Instead the dresses will sold by apoointment only, and while we're sure that a handful of couture customers will be lining up, the idea is that the label will cater to celebrity fans. So we'll probably be seeing a lot more Gucci dresses hitting the red carpet.
