Liberty targets high-street collaboration

By Lianne Ludlow | Posted: Fri 21 Aug 2009

Is it us or is the 134-year-old department store Liberty on a mission to take over the fashion world this month?

Hot on the heels of their flash mob event last week, in which over 200 fans turned up wearing floral prints to celebrate the launch of Liberty's fourth floor 'Prints Charming' exhibition, and the news that subversive artist Grayson Perry was one of the latest to collaborate with Liberty on his own prints for the store, (think 1950s style bicycles and teddy bears with tombstones), we learn that a Liberty line for US superstore Target could be in the offing.

Liberty chiefs have obviously taken note that their exclusive iconic prints have almost single-handedly kept the department store afloat during the recession, and are maximising opportunities with their trademark paisley and floral patterns.

Liberty will be looking to work their prints into Target's fashion and accessories for Spring next year.

Kate Moss (Liberty prints as part of her Topshop collection pictured), Cacherel, Nike and APC have all recently collaborated with Liberty to create or utilise their iconic prints for their own collections. We adore the prints and would love to see an accessible high-street collection in the UK. Meanwhile Target continues their romancing of UK fashion power houses, following their McQ line with Alexander McQueen.
