The Olsens; Best in Show

For two of Hollywood's most famous faces, it was a remarkably low-key affair. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's debut show for The Row had no paparazzi or razzamatazz. Instead, just 100 guests were invited to an anonymous upstairs room in an unglamorous part of Manhattan. But there, the duo made a kind of magic.
They showed 19 outfits, nothing more. Everything was stripped back to beautiful basics. The models wore simple flat sandals, little make-up and carried no accessories save a snakeskin envelope clutch or elbow-length leather gloves. But the clothes said everything.
In black, white or denim blue, they were simple but devastatingly chic; slouchy silk trousers, a strapless dress with overlaid corset, a loose blazer, an asymmetric snakeskin skirt, a floor-length dress. It all echoed the modern, minimal spirit which designers like Phoebe Philo or Raf Simons are currently proposing. But it was a unique and impressive statement all of its own. Bravo!
