The Council of Fashion Designers of America admits 31 new designers including Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Alongside fashion's newsest crop of design stars including Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and Chris Benz, actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have won their highest accolade yet as designers, and have been admitted to the CFDA by it's president Diane Von Furstenberg.
The twins have been recognised for their contribution to American fashion through their labels The Row (named after Saville Row in London) their polished, tailored collection of luxe wardrobe staples and Elizabeth and James their directional, mid-range brand, named after their younger brother and sister.
Executive Director of the CFDA Steven Kolb said with these new appointments Diane Von Furstenberg hopes to extend the CFDA family, 'Diane’s whole approach to fashion and design is inclusiveness,' he told WWD today.
Elsewhere America's top designs have also been recognised by the European fashion industry. Alexander Wang and Thakoon have been nominated for the Swiss Textile Award. They are up against British designers Erdem and Peter Pilotto for the 100,000 Euro prize, which was won by Rodarte last year.
