Lagerfeld to launch Karl line

Karl Lagerfeld, who recently joked that he should rename himself Karl “Labelfeld” due to his proliferation of branded side projects, will launch a mass-market women’s fashion brand called Karl at Paris Couture Week in January.

The Chanel and Fendi designer will introduce his 100-item mass-market women’s line for online purchases from 28 February at karllagerfeld.com.

Along with the Karl line, priced from €60 to €300, the designer will introduce a higher-end spinoff called Karl Lagerfeld Paris. Prices for that collection will start at €300 and rise to €2,500.

The president of Lagerfeld’s company, now owned by private equity firm Apax partners, told WWD that ‘we would disappoint if we could not multiply... substantially’ the €100m that Lagerfeld-branded products currently generate per year.

The Karl line will feature pieces the designer refers to as ‘street’ and ‘rock’: silver jeans, black cocktail dresses, denim and leather.

‘It’s my today’s taste and style and a reflection of how I think a great number of people would like to be dressed now,’ Lagerfeld said.
