Yves Saint Laurent auction raises millions

This is the second and final auction of the designer's belongings and due to the huge success of the previous sale, expectations were high this time around. Saint Laurent and Berge were both avid art collectors and back in February over 700 works were sold, attracting record bids. This week's auction, taking place in Paris, centres around the furniture that adorned the couple's Normandy home and includes everything from a mahogany bed to vases and suitcases.

Whilst we have to admit that we would prefer to snap up one of his vintage designs than his plates, it seems that there are plenty of collectors out there willing to shell out on a slice of fashion history. And with two more days of sales yet to come, millions more could still be accumulated. Who said there was a recession?
