Gucci goes on tour with Florence

Now, Giannini is moving the muse-designer relationship to the next level, announcing that Gucci will garb Welch for her North American tour this summer.

‘When Florence first came onto the scene, I was captivated by her eccentric style and her willingness to dare,’ Giannini said in a statement. ‘I felt there was such an authentic energy to her sound and her look.... she was truly an inspiration for this collection as a modern day icon with her cinematic allure and powerful presence.’

A sketch of one of the costumes depicts a diaphanous gown with one loose sleeve, a panel of silk flowers on the bodice, and a daring thigh split—in other words, pure Welch perfection.

As you might imagine, the singer is more than a little bit excited about the partnership.

‘I was extremely flattered when I heard that Frida’s collection had been inspired in part by my performances and I was completely bowled over by her collection, the dresses seemed perfect for my shows, the colours, the shapes, the movement in the fabric,’ she said. ‘So it seemed natural that we work together on creating some pieces.... I can’t wait to get dressed for the stage!’

We can just picture the skirt billowing sorceress-style behind her as Welch dances across her bower-like stage... but we do have to take issue with the fact that folks in Philly and East Lansing (it’s in Michigan, people) get to experience the show, whilst we’re left looking at sketches.
