Add these commandments to your 2016 to-do list...

1. BE. MORE. JANET.

Leave it to Janet Jackson to bring some glamour to the year. Her – and her matching dance squad –will be giving plenty of cat-eyed side-eye and enviable dance moves when they tour the UK in March. The tickets are all gone, but we’ll be swooning over the social posts. It’s All For You.

2. SET YOUR SATNAV FOR SW1

Dover Street Market is moving from its namesake street to larger premises in Haymarket. Clear your diary for mid-March.

3. SERVE SOME COLD SHOULDER

Behold fashion’s new erogenous zone: your shoulders. It’s time to wear them naked. Take inspiration from Edun, Chloé (above), Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler and J.W.Anderson.

4. THE APP TO DOWNLOAD

Cross Instagram and Snapchat, add a dash of Happn and you’ve got Shots, a new photo-sharing app dedicated to selfies. Oh, yes.

5. PUT A BOW ON IT

Twist it, tie it, knot it, bop it. But please don’t ask us how to iron it. Bows and knots are the new adornment. Even for fashion purists.

6. DE-FRIEND YOUR BFFS

We’re hooked on web series Ex-Best featuring two BFFs who drift apart, and couldn’t put down Rachel B. Glaser’s Paulina&Fran (Harper Perennial, out now) about a rift between two college friends. We feel a Facebook cull coming on.

7. FLIP YOUR FOOD PLAN

We’ve always known it’s the most important meal of the day, and now new studies show we are more proactive, productive, and funnier first thing too. So we’ll be meeting for eggs not drinks from now on, OK?

8. DOWNLOAD THE 2016 MIXTAPE

<iframe width="100%" height="450" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/220221074&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;visual=true"></iframe>

The new voices we’re into...

Opulence, Brooke Candy

She’s Nicola Formichetti’s muse and is produced by Sia. Major doesn’t even cover it.

The Fool, Ryn Weaver

Meet Florence 2.0, this girl has got the ethereal thing on lockdown.

Burn, Låpsley

Think Adele’s voice mixed with Jamie xx’s beats. Yes, it’s that good.

New Love, Dua Lipa

A huge pop star in the making, fans of Lana Del Rey will be excited.

NoLo, Grace Mitchell

‘Big hair, does care’ and so do we – about this music.

9. PENCIL THIS IN

The Victoria & Albert reveals its saucy side with a lingerie exhibition. Undressed: A Brief History Of Underwear will run from 16 April 2016-12March 2017.

10. GET HOOKED ON

In February, tune in to Sky Atlantic’s new series, Vinyl. Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger’s music-industry drama stars Bobby Cannavale.

11. PREDICT A WINNER

With the Academy Awards approaching on 28 February,we’re forecasting the big winners to be: Spotlight starring Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams; director David O. Russell for Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper; and Eddie Redmayne doing it all over again and winning big for The Danish Girl.

12. SAY HOLA TO HAVANA

The Cuban capital is to be this year’s must-visit destination. It’s not just the rich history and culture of this recently opened up Latin-American style spot, it’s also getting fashion’s hautest stamp of approval. Chanel will show its Cruise collection there in the spring. We can’t wait to see Karl Lagerfeld’s salsa.

13. EMBRACE THE UNICORN

Our new favourite emoji is perfect for the year of the individual as it stands for being your fabulous self. Plus, it’s also a term for a Silicon Valley tech start-up valued over $1bn. Eitherway, we’re in.

15. PUT YOUR BACK IN TO IT

Usefulness is having a comeback in the bag world, along with all things Nineties – hence the rucksack resurgence. But which one to choose?

Adventurer: Burberry

City slicker: MaisonMargiela

Utilitarian: Hunter

(Very) strongwoman: RickOwens

14. GO FOR LOGOS

Big, bold branding? Bring it on. It’s the normcore backlash, a post modern take on brand ownership. As in: we’re not slaves to the brand, we’re just wearing these iconic, graphically pleasing logos with a huge dollop of irony.

15. TWIST YOUR HAIR

The summer braid has been benched in favour of twisted ponytails, bunches and buns, as seen at Altuzarra, Etro, J.W.Anderson, and Marni. Looks intricate, but it’s simple to do.

16. RETURN TO YOKO

Yoko Ono – the activist/artist/all-round living legend – proves she is still entirely relevant as she collaborates with bands Death Cab For Cutie, Tune-Yards, Sparks and more on new album Yes, I’m A Witch Too. Out 22 January.

17. SAY THE RIGHT THING

Tacky is the new Basic

Granola is the new Normcore

Slaaaay is the new On Fleek

Thirsty is the new Keen
