We just held our Code Your Way To A Career In Fashion event with Twitter and Code First: Girls.

Hosted by ELLE Technology Editor Robyn Exton, it was a day of Coding 101 and inspiring talks from Jenny Griffiths MBE, founder of visual fashion search engine Snap Fashion, Anna Bance, co-founder of online luxury rental company GirlMeetsDress.com and Lisa Rodwell, CEO at Wool and The Gang.

All smart, ambitious women who are in a really strong position because they’ve embraced technology within their careers.

Here are 5 reasons why everyone should learn to code.

1 - Only 0.4% of women intend to major in computer science

2 - Technology is the fastest growing industry. It’s flexible and well paid and women can earn up to 30% higher than the average wage.

3 – ‘Don’t believe the hype. Coding is difficult but totally worth it.’ Jenny Griffiths, Snap Fashion

4 – Coding is creative and fun! Look, we even hacked ELLEUK.com

5 - The engineers from Code First: Girls and Twitter really understood that making something fun, at its root, comes from making us feel empowered and capable, rather than making something pink. So even being able to change a font or put in a form button can feel fun if we genuinely believe we did it all by ourselves. The odd kitten/puppy reference didn't hurt though - that's a universal love.
