North London's very own Adele is set to sign a contract with Sony Music in the highest ever-reported deal for a British musician, coming in at £90 million. The Tottenham-born Oscar, BRIT, and (multi) Grammy Award-winning artist will see her fortune double overnight, making her payday the highest for a female recording artist yet.

The previous record held by a female recording artist belonged to Whitney Houston, who signed a £70 million deal with Arista in 2001.

Having sold over 30 million records since her 2008 debut album 19, Adele has come a long way since 2006, after her demo was discovered on Myspace. Her 105-date arena tour has seen some ticket prices of nearly £25,000 on resale sites, and is set to generate upwards of £100 million.  The Hello singer was already reported to be worth £85 million according to this year's Sunday Times Rich List.

With music piracy and online streaming services affecting sales in the music industry, deals with lucrative acts such as Adele will make a massive difference to Sony in the long run.
