Actress and activist Amandla Stenberg has garnered worldwide attention for her activism around social and cultural issues, and for speaking out for the misrepresentation of women of colour.

This time, she’s leveling the representation playing field – Stenberg has teamed up with multi-platform publishing company, Stranger Comics, to create a brand new comic about a young black warrior woman named Niobe Ayutami.

‘NIOBE: She is Life’ tells the story and adventures of the half-human, half-elf protagonist as she saves the world and discovers herself in the process.

Stenberg told The Huffington Post that Niobe’s journey was similar to her own, and she was drawn to her because: ‘I connect to her mixed racial background and quest to discover her innate powers and strengths, to learn who she truly is’.

‘She is on a path to a destiny that will test her faith and her will, something we can all relate to. But there’s never been a character quite like her – one who shatters the traditional ideal of what a hero is. We need more badass girls!’ Stenberg said.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. The comic is expected to be released November 4.
