Dakota Johnson arrived at the 2015 Oscars – without Jamie Dornan on her arm.

Having recently split from her real-life muso beau Mathew Hitt, the Fifty Shades Of Grey star, who presented an award during the ceremony, opted to bring along her screen legend mum, Melanie Griffith, for moral support.

But as awkward moments go, someone asking your mum if she’s seen you in a compromising position is up there. That’s exactly what one interviewer suggested when she asked Melanie if she’s seen Dakota in Fifty Shades. ‘She’s a really good actress,’ Melanie said. ‘I don’t need to see it to know how good she is.’

Dakota’s retort: ‘Alright, you don’t have to see it!’ reminds us of ourselves – we totally understand where she’s coming from.

Then again, we’re not sure we’d want our mum to see us if we were the ones in Fifty Shades… It’s one thing to want your parents to be proud of you, but we think this is one movie that Melanie is well within her rights to never see. Given that the prop Dakota admitted taking from the Fifty Shades set was a ‘flogger', it's probably for the best.

It’s good to know that however famous you are, disagreements with your mum can still happen… even on the Oscars red carpet.
