Unpleasant initiation ceremonies, ten-bird roasts and obscene acts of depravity – all in a day’s work at The Riot Club.

A fictionalised version of Oxford University’s real life members-only Bullingdon club, the highly anticipated film sees the best of emerging Brit talent take the helm to showcase the truly naughty antics of the posh.

Translated from Laura Wade's play, Posh, and directed by Lone Sherfig, the film stars (deep breath) Max Irons (read our interview with the actor in the October issue of ELLE), Sam Claflin, Douglas Booth, Freddie Fox, Jessica Brown Findlay and Holliday Grainger (watch our interview with the actresses here); the fresh faces making for energetic performances across the board.

Claflin puts across a truly terrifying execution of unfeeling, affected and generally unpleasant first-year student, Alistair; and although humorous in parts, the overall motion of the film – approaching topics ranging from class difference to misogyny – successfully leaves the audience feeling more than a tad uncomfortable.

Raucous and unforgettable: The Riot Club, ladies and gentlemen.

In cinemas 19 September.
