When someone gets engaged, the first thing anybody asks is "How'd it happen?!"—so eventually, George Clooney would be asked to share his proposal story (even though it took long enough, thank you very much). On "CBS This Morning" yesterday, the actor and longtime bachelor told Charlie Rose that he hadn't revealed to his then-girlfriend Amal Alamuddin that he was in it for the long haul before popping the question. "I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal," he said. "But, you know, I have to say, when I asked her...we had never talked about it...there wasn't, like, 'Hey, maybe we should get married.' I literally dropped it on her."

So while the couple was chilling at home one evening (and Clooney had his aunt Rosemary's records playing in the background, which, awww), he went for it. "Finally, I just said, 'Listen,'" he revealed. "You know, I'm 53,'—at the time, or 52, I think, at the time—and I said, 'You know, I've been on my knee now for about 28 minutes, so I gotta get an answer out of this, 'cause I'm gonna throw a hip out."

Things obviously worked out, and a year, a three-day Venetian wedding and several positively regal red carpet moments later, things are still going swimmingly for the two. "I have someone who I can talk to about anything and someone who I care more about than I've cared about anybody," he said. "So it's really nice."
