POSSIBLE REAPPEARANCE OF THE X-FILES
CASE HISTORY: Last sighted in 2002, the unexplained phenomenon of The X-Files left those exposed glassy-eyed and fixated on agents Mulder and Scully as they hunted UFOs and encountered all kinds of supernatural forces. Side-effects included an unquestioning acceptance of somewhat dodgy special effects, continued humming of ‘do-do-do-do-do-doooo’ and beginning to think that boxy grey skirt suits, à la Scully, COULD be a good look in the real world, too.
NEW EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS: Fox TV executives have been in discussions with series creator Chris Carter about a possible comeback. However, what remains unconfirmed is the status of stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. ‘We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian,’ Fox TV executive Dana Walden told Entertainment Weekly. “We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard… they have a lot going on.’ What could be more important than searching for the truth, guys? WHAT?
PLAUSIBILITY RATING: High. Despite David Duchovny’s seven-season run in Californication and Gillian Anderson’s recent takeover of British TV (The Fall) and theatre (Streetcar Named Desire), they will forever be Mulder and Scully to us. And those pesky aliens are still out there (we loved them, but Mulder and Scully’s record at tracking down that truth isn’t so great, is it?). What’s more, modern reboots of cult series (Twin Peaks, 24) are popping up like crop circles.
Conclusion: Just like Mulder, WE WANT TO BELIEVE. Make it happen, guys!
