Hilary Swank is the latest Hollywood actress to speak out against the gender pay gap in the film industry.
'My male counterpart will get paid 10 times more than me — 10 times,' she told students at the Loyola Marymount University School of Film & TV in LA. 'Not double, but 10 times for the same job.’

Swank’s comments couldn’t be more timely, as a new wave of feminism gains ground. This month, The Fawcett Society published its Gender Pay Gap report, which highlights that more than 40 years after the Equal Pay Act was enacted in 1970, women’s hourly earnings continue to be significantly lower than men’s in the UK.
During her speech, The Homesman star touched on the lack of interesting film parts for women. ‘I mean, there’s two genders on this earth. Both are compelling, interesting, diverse, wonderful in all their own separate ways. And yet there’s an influx of male roles and there’s just not for women.'
The Homesman is released in the UK on 21st November 2014.
