What’s Kate Hudson been up to these days? Well, other than having co-founded a stylish and affordable line of sportswear, Fabletics, and having starred opposite Zach Braff in the actor’s second directorial?

A whole lot of laughing.

You heard us right. We grabbed five minutes to talk to the magnetic star about having a good time, role reversals, and her number one beauty tip.

ELLE: When we watched the film, Wish I Was Here, emotions ranged from the audience crying to raucous laughter…

KH: In Sundance, there was this one moment when it went so silent, you could hear a pin drop, and then you could just hear sniffles throughout the whole theatre. That was the best feeing; we took that as a good sign.

ELLE: What was your favorite part of making the film?

KH: Filming with Zach. We’ve been friends for a long time so having the whole experience with him was just great. Also, working with Mandy [Patinkin]. We had this one scene together and it was one of those days at work – which you do get throughout your career - when you truly love what you do.

ELLE: What was the funniest thing that happened on set?

KH: I can’t pinpoint a moment, but I’m a laugher; I laugh all day. I don’t even know half the time what I’m laughing at, but I know when I’m having a good time.

ELLE: Your character Sarah was very interesting. Can you talk to us about her?

KH: What I liked about Sarah is that she’s always done what she’s needed to do to get food on the table for her family, which enables her husband to go after his dream - even though it’s becoming very clear that it’s not going to happen for him. In this way I liked how Zach wrote a role reversal with the male/female dynamic.

ELLE: So moving onto Fabletics, which you co-founded this year, what made you opt for sportswear?

KH: It’s what I live in, and lifestyle is something I’m very passionate about. I wanted to provide women with affordable stylish wear; I wanted to reach out to more women to get active and motivated, and set smaller goals for themselves, as well as feel empowered by being able to have control over those goals.

ELLE: What’s your preferred form of exercise?

KH: I do everything. I get really bored really fast. I run, I spin, I dance, and I do pilates. My theory is that you should just do something active for 20-30 minutes everyday. Break a sweat; get your brain working and your blood flowing.

ELLE: What lifestyle tips do you live by?

KH: Sleep. My best beauty tip is to actually get some sleep. Drink water. Use coconut oil. Coconut oil is my favorite; I use it everywhere. It’s an inexpensive way to hydrate.
