Actor, director, screenwriter and…feminist. Just how we like our Hollywood men.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has spoken about feminism before, but now he's taken things a step further. Perhaps inspired by Emma Watson's amazing speech at the UN to launch their ground-breaking #HeForShe campaign (if you haven’t watched it yet, prepare to be very inspired), he has just posted a Youtube video on the subject.
A couple of days ago, the actor used his artistic production company, hitRECord, to post a video online encouraging the debate around feminism, as well as explaining his own interpretation of the term.
‘To me it means that your gender doesn’t have to define who you are. That you can be whatever you want to be, whoever you want to be, regardless of your gender.’
In addition to the actor’s own research on the topic - approaching the ever-present gender pay gap (join our #MakeThemPay campaign here) – the video also reveals Levitt’s feminist roots.
‘The first person that ever told me about feminism was my mum. My mum was active in the second wave of the feminist movement in the Sixties and Seventies.’
