Kanye West shared two new tracks on his Soundcloud account on Monday night. Say You Will, featuring Caroline Shaw is a reworked version of the opening track on his 2008 album 808s and Heartbreaks. His second offering, When I See It is a soulful remix of Tell Your Friends, a track Kanye created for The Weeknd earlier this year.

Fans have waited almost two years for new material from the rap superstar, who has been busy with his second clothing collection and potential presidential campaign in 2020.

SWISH, his follow up album to Yeezus, was due to be released this year, but now could be delayed until 2017. Kanye told Vanity Fair,’I’ve been doing that [making a new album] too. That’s like a sonic landscape, a two-year painting.’ There have been no further announcements, but at this rate could Kanye suddenly drop the album without anyone expecting it?

It’s been a big week for surprise releases, with Adele teasing fans with a snippet of her new song on Sunday night. During an X Factor ad break, a black screen was lit up with lyrics, accompanied by Adele’s trademark smoky voice. The promo didn’t include a release date or even confirm that it was really her. Within minutes, ‘Was that you Adele?’ was trending on Twitter.

Mystery and speculation seem to have replaced overexposure as the marketing strategy of choice for music’s biggest stars. Beyoncé started the trend when she dropped her surprise album on iTunes, but two years later it’s still going strong.
